I was a karaoke DJ for 3 years and I quit 7 years ago but still like to go sing. As far as this Kelly's, the food was good but the fries had no salt. The place changes after 10:00 pm and I noticed most of the white people left. I was told the singing starts at 10 but the "KJ" and her sister showed up at 10:05, put on a CD and by 10:45pm still no singing. I would say that safety is an issue as I was bouncer before I was a KJ and that place isn't all that safe after certain hours. It's sad!!! Used to be a nice place but some folks can ruin it for others. Didn't see what the cover charge was for but we were there early so we didn't have to pay. I would stay away before 9:00pm.
Pros: Good food and drinks
Cons: After 9:00pm you may want to go somewhere else

If you want drama, Kelly's Pub on 56th St is where 2 find it. They had a karaoke contest (which started on 18 August 2007) and said it would be for 10 weeks with the winner walking away with $500. 5 months later the contest started over again(January 5 2008) for another 10 weeks and most of the finalist NEVER showed, the same 3 ladies would sing.(There was karaoke for others b4 the contest). The winner was a CLOSE friend of the KJ. I recommend NOT going to Kelly's on Saturday night karaoke w/ Ms Vicki; it's an unfair contest + her systems/songs barely work. Fights always seem to happen late into the night, so it's NOT a fun place to hang out with girlfriends. Thugs & Gangsta's seem to hang out a lot & play their LOUD rap music & speech. They do have a great selection of beer, if you haven't tried it ask for "Landshark" by Budweiser.*try it with a lime* I've come to LOVE 2 bartenders & basically go when they r working. B aware of your surroundings at Kelly's although a cop is outside on Friday & Saturdays the security inside drink just like patrons and their buddies hang out at the door with them or the pool room. Bware of the pool room which is where MOST of the drama starts. This is just sweetnews4u!
Pros: 2 GREAT BARTENDERS both start with H.
Cons: DRAMA CITY!

They charge a cover. The place was nearly empty. The people in the bar looked a little creepy. Not the place for under 30 crowd.

Do not go here dangerous place. No securtiy, no concern for public's safety. Will pursue all legal avenues against this place. Sixteen people jumped one boy and beat him till passed out than continued to stomp him. The door man was the person alledge involved, but did nothing to stop the assult if he wasn't. Ask the police for number of police calls to this place before you go there. THIS PLACE NEEDS TO BE CLOSED OR WILL BE SHORTLY.
Pros: NOTHING

Whoever "Christopher Raymond" is, who wrote the "Editorial Review", he has clearly never been to this place. I went there tonight, March 5, 2007. There is one brand of wine, in a box, and comes in three "colors"... red, pink, and white. Not exactly a "surprisingly extensive selection of wine from around the world." The "lineup of domestic and import beer that is said to be unmatched in the city" consists of Bud, Bud Light, and Killians. The bottled beers are the same with the addition of Sam Adams. The food was typical bar food. My wings were good, my "seasoned fries" had no seasoning on them at all, not even salt. My wife had a ham and cheese and onion rings... the sandwich was what you'd expect but the onion rings were the kind that are made with diced onion bits and then frozen. Not good. It is reasonably priced... it'd have to be or they'd be out of business. For two meals and two drinks it came to $20. The other patrons were ok, but not exactly a blue and white collar crowd mingling in utopia. It was more like hoods and gangstas peacefully hollering profanities at each other. So if you know all this going in to it, then you'll have a pleasantly average and completely typical pub experience. If you think you're going to a wine bar that sports a large selection of beer, you will be as disappointed as we were.
Pros: they do technically serve beer
Cons: they don't have a decent selection
