Horrible Customer Service by Laurie B. at InsiderPages
Contributor at Insider Pages
My husband bought me a package as a gift that included a massage, facial, manicure, and pedicure. The front staff was not extremely friendly, but the service providers were nice and professional. My problem was that they did the pedicure last, and then proceeded to tell me that I could not wear my socks and shoes for an hour and a half. I had never had a pedicure before, so I did not think to bring my own sandals. They provided me with paper thin flip flops to wear home. However, I could not walk in them. They kept folding down under the toes and they really hurt. I stumbled down the hall trying not to fall and felt like an idiot. I had two stops I needed to make on the way home and it was the middle of winter. I couldn't understand why they didn't use a finishing spray like I use at home (can be purchased at Sally's) that sets the polish within a few minutes, or do my pedicure first or second so that it would be set upon leaving. I had no choice but to put on my socks and shoes which totally ruined the pedicure. I also thought that they could have suggested that I bring sandals and inform me that the pedicure would be last when I made the appointment. I called to let the management know that I was dissatisfied with the way the pedicure was done. I spoke with a lady named Dee. I found her to be rude and upity. She said, Haven't you ever had a pedicure before? She said there was nothing they would do. She said it was my fault that I had put on my socks and shoes and that now I was expecting my money back. I had never suggested that they give me my money back, but I did ask if they would just do the polish over again. I didn't expect them to do the foot bath, salt scrub, etc. I just thought they would be willing to take 10 minutes to apply the polish again in order to please a customer and ensure repeat business. She even implied that I was lying
Great Svc; Poor Front Desk
by grandma23 at Citysearch
My first visit - arrived at the front desk and my greeting was, "Do you have an appt," to which is responded affirmatively. Then a pleasant, "Sign in." No, "Have a seat and your massause will be right with you," or "Can I get you something to drink while you wait," or anything else that might be even close to a pleasant greeting. The girls then chatted amongst themselves about personal life issues - obnoxious to be listening to! Since front desk seems to be a continuing problem for Philipe's, you'd think it would be job performance closely monitored. Guess not!
- Pros: Massage was outstanding
- Cons: The front desk service is deplorable!
Bad Attitude
by RandallK at Citysearch
My wife, wife's daughter and daughter in-law wanted to make a morning of it and get a pedicure at a local spa. What should have been a relaxing and a fun time turned into a stressful event as they were met with icy stares and contempt because of arriving 12 minutes late to their appointment. The staff at this over-priced spa were rude and unforgiving, making the experience an unfortunate one for 3 ladies out to enjoy themselves. I have been in retail and in business for over 40 years and this is NOT the way a customer is treated. The owner of this shop should know that not only did they lose money that morning but these ladies will never frequent this shop again!
UNPROFESSIONAL
by GRythol at Citysearch
I was appalled by my experience at this place considering the amount of money I spent on my services and looking at the other reviews I'm not the only one who had a bad experience. The women who work here are extremely unprofessional, with the exception of Monica the nail technician. She was fabulous and very professional. There is nothing relaxing or unique about this place. Will not go back and will not recommend it.
Terrible
by jophelias at Citysearch
Terrible service. Women working were extremely unprofessional. There was constant loud chatting, laughing and doors slamming in the hallways while I was getting my facial. Not relaxing at all. Facial is overpriced and there is no neck/shoulder/foot massage included in the facial like there is at every other day spa I've been to. Woman who gives facials is way too chatty and tells you all about her personal life including showing pictures of her kids! I will never go back and I will be telling people not to waste their money. There are so many better day spas in Indianapolis than this overpriced hole-in-the wall.
Clients Not Wiling to Except Change
by sgndslddlvrd07 at Citysearch
I have read all of the complaints.
I actually go around and review spa's in the US for a magazine. My staff along with myself visited Philipe's during the months of 3/07-6/07.
A co-worker and myself were actually there on a day one of the complainers was there. Amasingly enough she neglected to state a few things.
Per management: 30 minute services are no longer changed into robes due to the fact many clients either come in late or take entirely too long to change in to their robes for a 30 minute service. However, if the client requests to be changed and he/she is on time the service technician will gladly have the person changed.
Simply put if you are looking to relax Philipe's is still 4 star and don't let 1 out of 3000 (booking in one month) deture you from visiting this spa. It is our job to visit these spa's over a period of time to see how the services are truly not just a one day experience. In all, the service technicians were always curteous and very professional.
BE ON TIME, RESPECTFUL, LOOK TO RELAX NOT COMPLAIN THROUGH OUT YOUR SERVICES ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE IS NO ERROR WITH THE TECHNICIAN YOUR JUST HAVING A BAD DAY,
- Pros: 90% of the technicians are very knowlegable of the services they provide and have the passion to do their sevices.
- Cons: There should be more a viriaty in drinks offered, host more events, management should back their technicians more regarding services and not comp a client just so they can stop complaining.
You call Philipes a Spa?
by anonymousmiss at Citysearch
I wouldn't recommend Philipes either. Among many reasons, I learned that it was once privately owned but has since been purchased and turned over to a corporation. No wonder someone mentioned they felt like part of an "assembly line", it was not the ambience that you would normally expect in a spa. Another reason is the management. I encountered an issue with the lady who did my massage, I believe that she was praised below in another review, but my experience with her was anything but pleasant. She wasn't friendly at all, I felt very rushed by her, and the massage wasn't worth mentioning. I had to wait around until the manager was found, she was a nice lady but I felt she only wanted to hurry up and solve my problem without really addressing the issue. The lady who did my facial was great and so was my manicurist even though my massage chair was broken during my pedicure. I won't EVER go back and spend another $225 at Philipes and I certainly don't recommend anyone else even spending a penny there!
Disapointed
by spajo at Citysearch
I am an avid spa goer and I've visted this spa in the past. I visited Philipe's in March of 07 and was greatly disapointed. I purchased a retreat package which includes a message, facial, manicure and pedicure. They no longer give you a robe, and ask that you remain in your street clothes for your treatments. No feeling of being pampered in that. They only offer water in the relaxation area (no more juice). The person giving me my facial was double booked so she kept leaving me to attend to her other client. I was rushed from treatment to treatment, being told they were behind schedule at each juncture. The message chair I sat in during my pedicure was broken. I also noticed that a lot of the walls had nail holes in them as if they recently took down art or shelves or decorations, etc and left everything without being filled and repainted. Just tacky. All in all, I felt extremely rushed, and more like I was in some sort of assembly line, rather than enjoying a much desereved (and over priced) relaxing day of being pampered.
- Pros: Thumbs down
- Cons: Rushed, over booked, ambience
Worst customer service experience I have ever had
by kamc30 at Citysearch
I went to phillipes as part of my things to do the day you get married. I had made an appointment for massage, manicure and pedicure and I believe there were about 10 of us. As stated, we had reservations. It started off that they FORGOT about me. The Bride. Left me in a room for 30 minutes before I finally went up there to see what was going on. They then shoved me into the peddy room and rudely informed me that I had missed my manicure appointment so I would be unable to receive it. I didn't miss it, they forgot about me. Luckily, the very kind woman who was working on my toes decided to stay late and do my hands. It was such a horrible experience and I paid over $100 for it. and I wrote a letter to the district manager and she never responded back to me. There are so many spas out there, find one that treats you well. I don't recommend this one at all.
AWESOME HOT STONE MASSAGE
by sisters_on_the_rise at Citysearch
I had a hot stone massage by a therapist named Aquanita. I have traveled around the world and received over 100's of massages and she is the best I have ever had.
The only thing I didn't enjoy was it seemed like there was too many people at the front desk that were not working the front desk and it caused a lot of confusion. It caused me to be 15 minutes late for my service however Aquanita forfeited some of her time with her family to stay later to accomidate me.
I understand she is a team leader... cudo's to whomever hired her she is the BEST!
I would like to see a shorter waiting time, less congregating and more assisting guests. There should be someone specifically hired for escorting the guests to and from the relaxation room/locker so they can get prepared for their services verses waiting for the therapists to take us back. That poor girl went from one massage to the next with 5 minutes in between to breathe.
In all I think the massage given was GREAT!
- Pros: Service provided by therapist
- Cons: To many people at front desk not working the front desk
