Don't know how this place remains in business

by JazzGrrl at Citysearch

This restaurant was chosen by a friend who I arranged to meet after work. I had my doubts because it had been quite some time since I had been there, and I didn't recall being that impressed even then.

When I walked in the door, and toward the counter, I was rudely cut off by a waiter who practically stepped on my toes in order to walk past me....and it was all downhill from there. The chips were stale, the salsa sucked, and the entree was even worse. I ordered the tamale dinner, and ALL of it; tamales, rice and beans were just terrible. I didn't know that it was even possible to mess up rice and beans, but apparently it is. If A.J.'s wants to take a crucial first step toward improving their cooking they should start by losing the &%$#* sugar bowl!

They call this Mexican food?

by felkman at Citysearch

I have been to at least 50 Mexican restaurants in my life if not more, most good, some bad and this was hands down the worst Mexican food I have ever had. The greeting was good when I walked in but it went down hill from there. I looked around at the dirty restaurant and decided to sit outside and take my chance on the sidewalk. The chips were warm but had been fried in oil that must not have been changed in weeks. I go to use the strange squirt bottle of salsa only to find it is some sweet barbecue sauce / ketchup with pepper seeds in it instead of salsa, and no, it was not good. I did like my cold beer that was used to wash down the gross chips, to bad it was gone just before I got my meal and the waitress never came around until I was finished eating to bring me another one. I don't even know how to explain the food. The taco had a crispy shell, I will give it that but the meat was like hamburger and beans mixed together and tasted like it had an Ortega seasoning packet thrown in. This same meat was also used for the other 2 items which I can't tell you what they even were as they were covered in nasty canned cheese sauce. The mushy rice tasted like it came from a can and I think the cook spilled a container of garlic or onion powder in the beans and just sent it out today, or maybe that is how they serve them. I gave this place a 1 star only because my beer was cold, other than that, there was nothing good about my Acapulco Joe's experience.

  • Pros: Beer was cold
  • Cons: OMG Where do I begin?

This place should be shut down

by indylunch at Citysearch

This place used to be decent. Now, it is absolutely terrible. The food was expensive and foul. The chips had to be weeks old and were horribly stale. The service was the worst I have ever had. The restaurant was dirty. I hate this place and will never go back. Ever.

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Vile, expensive, and terrible

Cold chips, No Service!

by CSMobileUser at Citysearch

Expected better of a prominent downtown indy mexican restaurant but no dice. Wait was long but servers could've cared less to do their job. Sat downt to hold a sticky menu and to have placed before us cold, stale chips. After a quick glance at the over-priced dishes, we made quick exit. Our serve probably didn't even notice we cut out. Thanks Joe but no mo.

Worst "Mexican" Restaurant EVER

by goodspeeder at Citysearch

This was, by far, the very worst "mexican" restaurant I've ever been to. The "three nacho" meal consists of literally three small nachos, with a spoonfull of meat and cheese on each. It averages to $2 a nacho. The service is awful, rude, and worth not tipping. I went with a party of four and each person had terrible food. I am appauld a place like this can stay in business.

  • Pros: The service is so awful you save money by not tipping.
  • Cons: This will create the worst eating experience

WOW

That was terrible!!

I never wrote a review in my life until now.

I went there because I was told it's fast and I was on my lunchbreak at work.

I met my boyfriend there just today for lunch and I'm sitting here miserable from the crud I ate

He is home sick ..throwing his guts up.

We both ordered 3 taco lunch meal. I ordered mine with beans in lieu of meat.

The "meat" on his taco resembled groudn coffee beans and according to him tasted nasty.

THe beans on mine were laced so heavily with onions it made me gag.

The chips were stale. The bbq flavored hot sauce was disgusting.

He ordered a mt dew, and got a pepsi.

It wasn't fast either. It took 25 min for them to shovel slop on to a plate.

I'm sick

He's sick

Gross Gross Gross

Never never never never going back.

My stomach is chruning. I'm sick.

THe place is dirty as hell too.

UGH.. gross nasty nasty food!!!!

Amazingly awful

by NewIndyGuy at Citysearch

I've never written a review before, but can't help it. It was awful. The chips were stale and the salsa tasted like barbeque sauce. it was so bad, I didn't even bother to complain, since it was obviously how they wanted it to taste.

I ordered the chimichanga, it tasted like a frozen burrito that had been toasted in an oven (the sort that I bought in college and cooked in the dorm). It had chilli on top of it that had the same barbeque taste as the salsa.

The beer was cold though and the staff seemed unsurprised when i had one bite and then left the rest. The didn't charge me which was nice.

I'm honestly surprised anyone else was even in the place. I'm new here, but will never return.

Acapulco Joe's

by mumsyrox at Citysearch

Seriously-salsa in a squeeze bottle???? NASTY! It tasted like Ortega toaco sauce in a jar. Marsh deli has better salsa-fresh with CILANTRO! The Quesedilla (beef) was like small amounts of roast beef chunks (definitely not steak) on a soggy tortilla loaded with crunchy onions and a pile of white flavorless cheese. Both the quesedilla and the taquitos(chicken) lacked flavor-they were both quite bland, as was the salsa and guacamole. We asked for ice water twice, and finally received one glass for both of us! Does anyone know where to get decent flavorful Mexican food in this city? Help!!

  • Pros: nice outside seating
  • Cons: food was so very bland!
