Amazingly awful
by NewIndyGuy at Citysearch
I've never written a review before, but can't help it. It was awful. The chips were stale and the salsa tasted like barbeque sauce. it was so bad, I didn't even bother to complain, since it was obviously how they wanted it to taste.
I ordered the chimichanga, it tasted like a frozen burrito that had been toasted in an oven (the sort that I bought in college and cooked in the dorm). It had chilli on top of it that had the same barbeque taste as the salsa.
The beer was cold though and the staff seemed unsurprised when i had one bite and then left the rest. The didn't charge me which was nice.
I'm honestly surprised anyone else was even in the place. I'm new here, but will never return.

Acapulco Joe's

Seriously-salsa in a squeeze bottle???? NASTY! It tasted like Ortega toaco sauce in a jar. Marsh deli has better salsa-fresh with CILANTRO! The Quesedilla (beef) was like small amounts of roast beef chunks (definitely not steak) on a soggy tortilla loaded with crunchy onions and a pile of white flavorless cheese. Both the quesedilla and the taquitos(chicken) lacked flavor-they were both quite bland, as was the salsa and guacamole. We asked for ice water twice, and finally received one glass for both of us! Does anyone know where to get decent flavorful Mexican food in this city? Help!!
- Pros: nice outside seating
- Cons: food was so very bland!
This is the First and LAST TIME we will visit Acapulco Joe's
by Sparky234 at Citysearch
We took our teens and some friends to Acapulco Joe's last night and it was hands down one of the very worst dining experiences we have ever had. We waited FOREVER just to place a drink order. Someone from back in the kitchen came out and tried to take our orders but was extremely rude to our kids. Once we finally placed our food orders we waited, and waited, and waited to get our food. They were not busy on a Thursday night so I could not understand why it took so long. Any other El - whatever restaurants we go to have your drinks and food out right away and make your dining experience fun. This place is horrible and I do not recommend it to anyone. To top it off the food was bad and 3 of the kids in our group did not even eat at all. It was over priced and a waste of our time.
- Pros: $1 Draft Thursday
- Cons: Slow (rude) service and bad food

I have eaten alot of Mexican food and I have to say that I love this place. The salsa is terrific! So are the chips!
Major disappointment
by JenInIndy at Citysearch
I have been here twice - both times with high expectations. I kept hearing how fabulous the food was - both lunch/dinner and their biscuits and gravy for breakfast. So, I tried both types of meals. The lunch food was below average - just a step above Taco Bell. The breakfast was such a disappointment. The gravy was good, but the biscuits were doughy and undercooked. The coffee that was initially brought to our table was stone cold and we waited at least five minutes to get someone's attention to let the know. Apparently the switch that was supposed to remain on overnight was turned off. To top things off, the place smelled musty and the bathrooms were filthy. Needless to say, I will never go back.
- Pros: Reasonably priced, convenienct downtown location
- Cons: Sub-par food; mediocre service, and dirty facilities
Bad. Bad. And Bad.

I made a 25 person reservation for my birthday more than a week in advance for the outside deck. The reason I chose this place was b/c of the outside seating. A woman even called me from the restaurant the morning of to confirm my "outside reservation for 25 people". When I arrived, they had 2 tables set up INSIDE and ended up giving away one of my tables b/c not all of us were there at the same time. I asked the owner if we could sparatically sit outside once tables started opening and she said it wouldn't be a problem, well it was a problem b/c I never got to sit outside until the last 5 minutes. I was infuriated. Aren't reservations suppose to RESERVE your seat? They did absolutely nothing to accommodate their mistake. Their margaritas are straight mixer with a drop of cheap tequila, they played God Bless America every 20 minutes (horrific), no festive music was ever playing and someone kept obnoxiously yelling over their PA. It was a nightmare. I will NEVER EVER EVER go back.
- Pros: We had a very nice waitress.
- Cons: Customer service is heinous.
Good authentic Mexican???
by puckboy at Citysearch
Stale chips and sqeezable salsa that tastes like ketchup with a little heat. Only 5 or 6 items on the lunch menu. El Rodeo or Cancun is much better for half the price. Service is fair at best.
- Pros: Location
- Cons: Price, quality of food, parking
