Ruth's Chris Disappointing
by johkra at Citysearch
Perhaps the most overpriced/overrated restaurant in the high end dining experience. While some may enjoy their steaks floating in a sea of sizzling butter, I found the added grease took too much away from the steak itself. The side of fried potatoes were cooked to the point of being burned, yet somehow found a way to our table luke warm at best. Sadly, the salads provided the highlight of the meal. Given the cost of a dinner for two and the amount of food served, my wife and I felt we were given a Kia for the price of a Mercedes. Disappointing.
- Pros: Close to home, Nice Atmosphere
- Cons: Way over priced, Food average at best

I have always enjoyed the quality services that Ruth's Chris provides
Always a great Experience

Downtown has more atmosphere than Northside, but both locations deliver great food and great service!
We love taking out of town people to Ruth's Chris!
Excellent Service & Delicious Food

I have eaten at Ruth's Chris for both business and pleasure and have always had a great experience! The northside location does a fantastic job in accomodating groups for business presentations (haven't done this downtown). Their servers are extremely attentive, but in just the right doses. Each time I've gone to either location to celebrate something special, they always give us a little something extra at the end of the meal ~ be it a glass of champagne or chocolate covered strawberries. And the food is top notch! Their petite filet is my favorite out of any steakhouses I've been to... it always comes out warm and sizzling on the plate (and covered in yummy butter). Only one place in Dallas, Texas rivals it. But as far as Indy is concerned, they are the best! And my absolute favorite dessert in town is their chocolate souffle. It is to die for! I prefer Ruth's Chris over Morton's, Peterson's, Sullivan's, Flemming's (although I've only been there once) and St. Elmo's by far.
- Pros: Service, Steak, Desserts, Ambience
- Cons: A tad expensive (but worth it!)
Sophisticated American chain serves up corn-fed USDA prime cuts and New Orleans-style appetizers and sides.
by Tara Lis at Citysearch
In Short
This offshoot of a popular New Orleans hangout for politicians features decor of dark woods and comfortable booths, with a separate bar scene. Choice cuts of custom-aged beef arrive in sizzling butter on 500-degree plates. The menu also offers chicken, pork and seafood entrees along with Creole appetizers like shrimp remoulade. Family-style sides include gargantuan onion rings, creamed spinach and various styles of potatoes. Traditional homemade desserts like cheesecake and bread pudding conclude the meal.
Underwhelmed
by Slowrider5 at Citysearch
Full disclosure: I decided to try Ruth's Chris during the "Devour Downtown" week where you can try high-end restaurants for $30 per person. I have had fancy business dinners at other downtown high-end steakhouses, but had never tried Ruth's Chris and really wanted to experience their sizzling steaks. When we first walked in, I was impressed. When we walked out, I was underwhelmed.
The atmosphere was pleasant upon walking in, as was the hostess. It went downhill after that. We waited at least 5-10 mins for our waiter to arrive to take our drink orders (the restaurant was only 1/3 full at 7:30PM on a Sunday). The drink menu was then left taking up elbow room until our entree plates were cleared. Everything was very rushed: the salad, the steaks, and then the dessert. The salad was OK, the steaks (10oz ribeye) were great, just what I was hoping for, and the dessert was also quite tasty.
The waiter was inattentive, and when he was speaking to us or asking us a question he was on the move, not stopping at our table. When the steaks arrived, we found after the first bite that they mixed up the plates, so we had the fun of trying to pick up and move 500 degree plates. When my girlfriend asked to take most of her remaining dessert home, they gave us a Styrofoam carton without the fancy take-home bag that they give everyone else. The waiter swooped in to pick up the check as soon as I had signed the receipt.
I wondered if our experience had something to do with the fact that we were there taking advantage of the special, but I tend to think not totally, because it started before we ordered with the very slow drink service.
For the money, what we got in terms of food was good, but for a place that advertises itself as high-end, I would label the service as terrible. I would have been even more upset if I paid full-price. Overall, it was a very sub-par experience. Wouldn't risk coming here if I was entertaining a client.
- Pros: Great steak
- Cons: Everything else

Ruth's Chris Restaurant = The SAKS of retail
by kenlee at Citysearch
Let's get honest. An Industry consists of it's people. You go to Ruth's, you expect the BEST; you go to SAKS FIFTH AVENUE; you expect the BEST. When I go to either, I get what I expect. Keep up the good work Ruth's I rely on you. I love New Orleans and I love YOU!!!
- Pros: educated-staff, Professional, Historically-Romantic
You get what you pay for and more!
by rkeeling at Citysearch
I see that people keep mentioning the price. I think for the service that you recieve and the food it is well worth it. I remember the first time I took a date there she got up from the table and when she returned her napkin had been refolded and put back on the table. She was suprised and as far a service they have a different person for everything. So with that kind of service you must expect to pay a little more. As far a the steaks. I think they are great, they don't add a lot of seasonings or cover the steak with anything like other places do because of the quality of meat. I go quite often and recommend it to everyone. They also have a location on the Northside of Indianapolis that is great also.
- Pros: Great Service, Great food, Great Atmostphere
- Cons: , parking
WONDERFUL ALL AROUND!!!
by charity2468 at Citysearch
My husband has taken me to Ruth Chris for our anniversary every year. And we have never been sorry. And we visit Ruth Chris usually 2 other times through out the year. The food is always wonderful. The service is alway great. And there has never been a time that we have went and not had a great experience. It is great for a night out or just a romantic dinner. We love Ruth Chris. It can seem expensive but you pay for what you get. If you want great service and quality of food then you have to pay the price for it.
- Pros: Great Service, Great Food, Great Atmosphere
