Ivy's caters to the Indianapolis GLBT community. The food is consistently good and a good value for the money spent. The atmosphere is warm as you enter through a beveled glass front door. The bar has a large screen TV usually with a sports event on. The dining area is comfortable with an attentive wait-staff.

  • Pros: Easy parking, Good value, Delicious meals

We are very sorry this customer had a less than satisfactory experience at English Ivy's. If anyone ever has a complaint, comment, suggestion or is not completely satisfied, we always invite and encourage them to contact either John or myself and we will see to it that the situation is made right. We strive to serve great food at a reasonable price in a very friendly atmosphere. And, as you can see from the dozens of reviews on not only this site, but several others on the net, our customers feel that we succeed in doing so.

I frequently ate at the Ivy last summer and was overall very pleased with everything the restaurant had to offer, however, things seem to have gone durastically downhill since. I recently had my last meal at this establishment, and almost quite literally. I first ordered the antipasta salad during my lunchbreak, a dish somewhere under $10, and something I had never ordered before. After about 20 minutes my waiter came to our table and told my co-workers and I that our meals will take a little while due to the preparation time of the antipasta- something remarkable, for antipasta is traditionally served cold, thus the "anti" part of the name. After another 10 minutes we were finally served our food, and to my surprise, I received a hot pasta dish of noodles, a creamy cheese- tomato sauce, and sausage. Normally I would have complained, but seeing that I was pressed on time because of my lunch break, I accepted the dish as my lunch, assuming the price was probably in the ball park of $10 anyways. I must note that one of my coworker's order was also screwed up too, yet not as severely as mine. I was only able to finish half, so I boxed the rest to eat later. Fast forward to later in the evening- I went to finish the meal for dinner, and after the second bite, I coughed up a piece of 2"x2" plastic wrapper from my food. This put me over the limit. The wrapper probably came from the food's packaging which they heated in the microwave anyways. I didn't want to write this review, but I got to thinking about the possibility of a small child consuming the food and choking on the wrapper, which would have been way more lethal. I don't mean to discourage any loyal customers, but instead, to give a heads up on what you eat- CHECK FOR PLASTIC- unfortunately this complex machine we call our bodies cannot digest this stuff, and it could ruin your day.

  • Cons: Bad Service, Plastic served in food, Long Waits

I've been going to Ivy's for a long time and have always enjoyed it. Recently, it was sold to a couple from Seattle, John & Chuck, and they're teriffic. The food is getting better and better, the servers are very friendly and so are the bartenders. There's no place like that's better that I know of.

  • Pros: Good menu, off street parking, friendly staff.

As the owner of English Ivy's, i would never comment under the review sections in regards to the restaurant. However, i feel obligated to state the truth if someone blatantly lies in an attempt to hurt the restaurants image. English Ivy's has grown over the pasts 8 years into one of the nicest neighborhood restaurant/bars that downtown Indy has ever seen. The food is great, the atmoshphere is clean, beautiful and comfortable, the service is very good and the Customers...top notch.

I can tell you, the two fights that the reviewer mentioned, never happened. If in fact a fight were to break out, 911 would have been called immediately. If this person can produce a police report in regards to his alligations, i will not only recant this statement put place the report on display in the restaurant. I did look into this reviewers previous reviews and found that he had reviewed the 'SLIPPERY NOODLE" the SAME DAY as Ivy's and i guess we fared better as he gave them like 100 fffffffffff's. One other point i would like to make is that although i have never personally been in the "Slippery Noodle", I do know that we are two TOTALLY DIFFERENT establishments.

Finally i would like to say that our restaurant is a great place to gather and you and your friends should not only feel safe, but know you are safe. Come hungry (and/or thirsty) and with an open mind and you will experience the great diversity in our staff and customers that has made ENGLISH IVY'S the best place to be in INDY! thank you for your time, dean a. coleman

The last few times I went to this place I witnessed two bar fights which was completely unexpected in such an atmosphere. I never thought of this as a dangerous establishment but I actually fear that next time something much worse could happen. It's pretty bad that you cannot even enjoy yourself in a neighborhood bar without being subjected to violence. I stongly discourage anyone from visiting this potentially dangerous establishment.

  • Pros: Friendly bartenders
  • Cons: Violent patrons
