REALLY !!! This place is #1 in Indy hands down. DO YOU REALLY NEED A REVIEW FOR THIS PLACE !!!! It is the #1 place to eat and be seen when you are in Indy. During SUPERBOWL even some celebrities had a hard time getting Reservation. The people of Indianapolis are so lucky to have a place like this. Philadelphia doesn't even have a steakhouse like St Elmo's that even comes close.

The place has a history that goes back to the year 1902........gee I wonder why they have been in business so long.............could it be the staff......maybe ...the staff is over the top and very helpful....but not that old.......could it be that this is the place to be seen...could be....could it be the bar area is well represented as a world class bar....could be....but truly the food is to die for......from the shrimp cocktails to the steak.....it is all great. ......well done guys. Now I have more of a reason to come back and visit Indy again.

PS YOUR HOOSIER HOSPITALITY WAS AWESOME

Jerry Ehrlich, from the Great City of Philadelphia, PA

EVERYTHING THAT GLITTERS ISN'T GOLD. Had dinner with a group of 10, I always heard that St.Elmo's was the place to be. It's just not for me. The steaks are over rated, over priced, and absolutly no flavor what so ever. And who in the world told the chef that navy beans go with steak? It was a total waste of money.

I would never recommend to anyone. Ruths Chris has nothing to worry about.

Well derserved 'best of' rating. My friends and I enjoyed the best steak and service ever. We still talk about the experience and are planning a return trip to Indy just to enjoy St. Elmo's. We're fairly well traveled and have enjoyed many steakhouses across the country but found that this steak deserves it's 'best of' rating. It is not intended for children. Thank goodness.

One of the most OVER-RATED.. One of the most OVER RATED and WORST SERVICE in Indianapilis......Not tastey, bad service, too crowded, too much pusshing, too many smokers, loud talking, TO MANY DRUNKS FALLING OVER YOU AND TELLING OFF COLOR IN FRONT OF CHILDREN.......

Go for the steak, eat the shrimp cocktail. When you reach this quality level of steak house, you can guarantee that meat will be dreamy. What this steakhouse offers over all of the others in Indy, is the most unbelievable, fabulous, shrimp cocktail. The shrimp is huge and the horseradish sauce will make you head sweat with delight!

Awesome Steaks. Great Restaurant in downtown Indy. I recommend the excellent Prime Rib. You get a choice of tomato juice or bean soup with your meal (Get the bean soup--you won't be disappointed--even if you don't like bean soup). The service is top notch. It is a little pricey, but you are guaranteed not to go away hungry.

Great service but.... The service and waitstaff were great...the food, no. The potato was served to me cold. Not even lukewarm, cold. My wifes' strip steak was cooked to med-rare, not med-well as she had ordered. Now here's the best part, my steak, which I ordered med-well, was med, which I could live with, I mean I started eating it, and it was fine...until after about 4-5 bites or so. Which is when I noticed something a bit odd. I originally dismissed it as being fat or something, and not to go into too much detail here, it wasn't. Long story short, I was disgusted, I was offered something else, but my appetite was long gone by then, they took it off my bill, and that was that. Some $40 steak!

Great ambiance, good food. This is a great restraunt to get a taste of the local scene. Here's the low down: Ambiance - Great ambiance, the bar is classic and bustling, while the dining area is perfect for a romantic dinner or group get together.

Food- The shrimp cocktail is very good, but be aware the cocktail sauce is very spicy. The steak was good, but it did come out over done, I sent it back and the next one was delicious. I'd give the steak a 9 out of 10, with Ruth's Chris getting a 10.

Service - My server, Chuck, was very attentive but not over bearing. The over cooked steak put service to the test. I mentioned that the steak was good, but overdone. He apologized, got me a new steak fast (which was cooked perfectly), and comped mea $12 glass of wine.

Ill be back!

Don't hate - St. Elmo's is AWESOME!. I don't know why no one gives Indy credit for doing things right, but this is one place that deserves praise. I'm sorry to those of you that had negative experiences - especially on a visit to town - but as an Indy native whose been many times, I would highly recommend it to anyone. The shrimp cocktail alone is worth the trip - the spiciest cocktail sauce you'll ever have! - and the wedge salad (way before everyone else jumped on the trend!) and surf & turf are phenominal. Really cool "old school" experience in the heart of downtown.
