This is a great restraunt to get a taste of the local scene. Here's the low down:

Ambiance - Great ambiance, the bar is classic and bustling, while the dining area is perfect for a romantic dinner or group get together.

Food- The shrimp cocktail is very good, but be aware the cocktail sauce is very spicy. The steak was good, but it did come out over done, I sent it back and the next one was delicious. I'd give the steak a 9 out of 10, with Ruth's Chris getting a 10.

Service - My server, Chuck, was very attentive but not over bearing. The over cooked steak put service to the test. I mentioned that the steak was good, but overdone. He apologized, got me a new steak fast (which was cooked perfectly), and comped mea $12 glass of wine.

Ill be back!

Best steak I have ever had outside of Texas!! Shrimp Cocktail is the best ever. Don't take alot of the cocktail sauce for your first bite, try it slow or you will be wiping your eyes!!!!

BEST SHRIMP COCKTAIL IN TOWN!!! I'd even venture to say it's better than any I've had in Florida too. The steaks melt in your mouth and the service is impecable!

FANTASTIC food. Definitely a high priced restaurant, you can easily spend over $100.00 on two people, but if that's what you're out for, it was definitely worth it. I didn't know anybody served prime rib this big, and the navy bean soup was excellent too. The staff was over indulging and the atmosphere was electric. I almost felt like if it was back in the day and I was important this was a place where the waiter would have carried a table already dressed down to the front of the room for me. Excellent choice for a date, anniversary, birthday, etc. Also, everyone absolutely raves about the shrimp cocktail, I'm just not much on shrimp. I had one though and it was very sweet and tender, and they make the cocktail sauce themselves and it was sooo spicy, but sooo good.

Had dinner with a group of 10, I always heard that St.Elmo's was the place to be.

It's just not for me. The steaks are over rated, over priced, and absolutly no flavor what so ever. And who in the world told the chef that navy beans go with steak? It was a total waste of money.

I would never recommend to anyone. Ruths Chris has nothing to worry about.

My friends and I enjoyed the best steak and service ever. We still talk about the experience and are planning a return trip to Indy just to enjoy St. Elmo's. We're fairly well traveled and have enjoyed many steakhouses across the country but found that this steak deserves it's 'best of' rating. It is not intended for children. Thank goodness.

One of the most OVER RATED and WORST SERVICE in Indianapilis......Not tastey, bad service, too crowded, too much pusshing, too many smokers, loud talking, TO MANY DRUNKS FALLING OVER YOU AND TELLING OFF COLOR IN FRONT OF CHILDREN.......

When you reach this quality level of steak house, you can guarantee that meat will be dreamy. What this steakhouse offers over all of the others in Indy, is the most unbelievable, fabulous, shrimp cocktail. The shrimp is huge and the horseradish sauce will make you head sweat with delight!

  • Pros: Shrimp Cocktail

Great Restaurant in downtown Indy. I recommend the excellent Prime Rib. You get a choice of tomato juice or bean soup with your meal (Get the bean soup--you won't be disappointed--even if you don't like bean soup). The service is top notch. It is a little pricey, but you are guaranteed not to go away hungry.

  • Pros: Great Food, Great Bar Service, Great Service
  • Cons: No on-site parking (Valet available or nearby garages)

The service and waitstaff were great...the food, no. The potato was served to me cold. Not even lukewarm, cold. My wifes' strip steak was cooked to med-rare, not med-well as she had ordered. Now here's the best part, my steak, which I ordered med-well, was med, which I could live with, I mean I started eating it, and it was fine...until after about 4-5 bites or so. Which is when I noticed something a bit odd. I originally dismissed it as being fat or something, and not to go into too much detail here, it wasn't. Long story short, I was disgusted, I was offered something else, but my appetite was long gone by then, they took it off my bill, and that was that. Some $40 steak!
