Dear Blues Fans,
Vince Mullin (guitar) and I (harmonica) will be playing the city and country blues and with some rock and roll thrown in at the Gaslight Inn 2280 S. Meridian St, this Saturday night, Feb. 20. It's just a block or two south of Raymond street on Meridian. The great folk singer, Lauren Shelly Davis will open the show at 9:PM. There's no cover charge.
Over 25 years ago Vince and I played in the "Yank Rachell Blues Band". Yank was the legendary blues mandolin man who wrote the song, "She Caught The Katie" which is the first song played in the original "Blues Brothers" movie. Yank wrote a lot of other great songs like "Lake Michigan Blues" definitely one of my favorites. Man I hope you got to hear him sing and play! He could rock out on his mandolin. He was also a good friend to both Vince and myself, and we both learned a lot about this music we all love playing with Yank Rachell! Many of us who knew Yank Rachell plan to celebrate his 100th birthday with a memorial concert in April. I'll let you know more about that once I know more of the details.
Vince Mullin is a wonderful slide guitar player. We've played music on and off in a variety of bands through the years including, "Little Hoover and The Electrolux" which was one of the first bands to ever play at the legendary, Slippery Noodle. We both are looking forward to playing as a duo for the first time in a lot of years. We definitely plan to play some of the tunes we learnedfrom Yank. The food is always great at the Gaslight, and they always have some great specials on food and drinks. it's a friendly place to enjoy some live blues. Hope you can join us Saturday night,
