very disappointing – After seeing this place on Guy Fieri's Diners Drive Ins & Dives, we were excited to try it out. We wish we read the reviews first as some seem to be more matched to our circumstances.
We arrived & were quickly shouted at as they were not open yet...uhm the chalkboard at the door said you were open. Gheez sorry. Hubby wanted to try somewhere else, but w/ the college daughters in tow, were talked into waiting the 20 minutes. When we were allowed inside...only 4 of the 8 tables were not reserved. WE were told to hang on, but went ahead & took a table as they were not seating us. Our waiter was nice but mumbled & hard to understand. Our drinks came in cans, later followed by glasses. Our appetizer "Chicken Lolipops" were fairly tasty but you only get 5... Then we waited & waited & waited for our food order to come. The restaurant was disorganized and the staff seemed to be dazed & confused. The owner seemed a bit of a female dog herself... Our dinners were fair.. but hardly what we expected. Three of us ordered the Shrimp Rolls. One ordered the Bacon Sandwich. The Bacon sandwich caused my family member to spend most the night sick on the toilet. At one point the owner went to through the front door with a bag to collect dog poop that one of the dog guest dropped, she then carried it back through the front door and past all of our tables for us to see & smell as she delivered it to the kitchen...yeah, the kitchen. With the 5 inside & 1 outside guest, and the 4 wait staff & plus owner, you'd think we would be getting pretty good service which was not the case. We had to ask twice for our bill. It was costly for what we got. We will not be returning. Very disappointing :(
HORRIBLE!!!! – A close friend of mine and I had the WORST dining experience of our lives last evening at The Barking Dog Cafe! From the moment we sat down until the moment we left, the entire experience was just HORRENDOUS! The waiter, who happened to be one of the owners, was very rude and non-personable. It was our first time there, so we asked a few questions about the menu and were told "it's pretty self explanatory." Umm, I've been in the industry, and this is NOT what you say! After placing our order and wondering just what we really ordered, we waited well over an hour and half for food, mind you this was for salad and a burger. After well over an hour and seeing many surrounding tables complain and get up and leave, I simply asked the owner, "how much longer?". The owner jumped into a rant and rave and blamed us, saying we took too long to order. I was completely taken back and stated that if the kitchen hadn't fired up our order, that I'd like to cancel and settle my tab. She, of course, stated this wasn't an option, and within five minutes, we finally got our meal. The food itself was nothing to rave about; the burger was nothing better than Steak N Shake with hardly any pomme frites, and the salad was mediocre. After scarfing it all down, because we were so hungry, the bill was presented with auto-gratuity over 20%. I was floored, especially after our service, and asked why this was the case; I was given no reasoning. I stated that I was not going to pay this amount and asked for a new bill (tax and gratuity had been rolled all together). Then here's the best part, I was told to pay and leave! Yes, LEAVE! I vow to NEVER go to Barking Dog again, which I don't think will be an issue! They'll go under quick! You can't treat people like this and expect to stay in business, especially in this economy! The Barking Dog Cafe has certainly left me BARKING for all the wrong reasons!!!
Awesome burgers! – I have been meaning to try this place for a while now, but they always seemed to be closed when I stopped by...they have recently extended their hours. At first I was skeptical about the idea of "thin, crispy burgers," but I am a convert. These burgers are a little slice of heaven. I have also heard that the clam chowder is great and I will be back try it.
