Decent food, service could be better

I have only been to Taste Cafe once, but the one time I went I enjoyed the food (especially the hummus).

There seems to be "rules" when eating here. We were told that everyone had to order everything at once because they can only bring the appetizer and main courses at the same time (and they waitress made it seem like it couldn't be done any other way). I thought it was a bit odd. I went there another time (craving hummus lol) thinking I could order an appetizer to go but was told they didn't offer that service and that I could sit at the bar. I also found this weird because they offer "to go" boxes.

Maybe one day I will get my hummus...

• Pros: Decent food
• Cons: Wait staff can be snooty; wish there was a take-out option

The Customer is NEVER right!

This was once a favorite spot to grab brunch until I asked to add lettuce and tomato to a sandwich and was told NO. The clerk said the kitchen would not make modifications to any item. I asked if they could put it on the side, charge me extra, anything - to which she replied NO. When I called the manger on Monday to discuss the matter he revealed he was the one who instructed her no. He was unsympathetic and made no apologies. There are tons of other great places within walking distance of Taste to have brunch. Zest on 54th and Monon is where I went that day.

Great Food, but Horrible Seating Problems

Taste has great food. Everything is fresh, relatively healthy, and made to order. However, Taste has one of the worst seating systems I have ever witnessed.

The restaurant is small, yet always packed to the gills. Customers are expected to place their own orders and find their own seating. It sounds simple, but it's a disaster in practice. Saving tables is forbidden, but since there is no sign or host to inform you, you might find yourself getting chastised by the manager (or at best, eating standing up).

Bottom line: This restaurant needs hosts and waitresses. It's too busy to be so haphazard.

• Pros: Excellent food.
• Cons: Manager is unprofessional, seating and service needs to be re-evaluated.
