rude owner. Having eaten there before as it is my policy to eat in privately owned neighborhood restaurants, I invited 8 friends to lunch. I checked the hours of operation posted on the wall outside the restaurant and indeed it was open for lunch. Eight of us got there at 1:00 on a Wed afternoon. Restaurant sealed shut...No note no communication. I called the restaurant and the owner told me she is allowed to close whenever she wants and has no obligation to anyone. And slammed the phone down. Before she had a chance to do that, I told her she could write some sort of note on the door or post something saying that she will close if she has no customers or that lunch requires a reservation. Perhaps her slamming the phone down, instead of a nice apology is the reason that there were NO customers.

Instant Potatoes :(. My husband and I ate Valentine's dinner at Amalfi. My husband raved about the mac and cheese, so we shared one as an appetizer. It was fine but a small serving. The waiter was attentive and competant. The water glasses were kept filled. I ordered a lobster cannelloni and my husband got a stuffed pork dish. The lobster was overcooked and either canned or frozen. It wasn't sweet like lobster but almost had a sour taste. The filling also had an abundance of spinach in it which should have been chopped finer. The ricotta cheese was sparse in the filling. One of the cannellonis was so full of pepper I drank an entire glass of water to get it down. I don't know what kind of sauce was over the top of my dish, but it was cheesy-yellow and just OK. The pork entree in my husband's dish was good but can you believe the potatoes were INSTANT !!!!! Instant potatoes in a fine restaurant should be a crime! I think we would have had a much better meal at Bravo Restaurant or maybe even Red Lobster. We won't be back until Gordon Ramsey jerks a knot in Chef Mario's tail.

My favorite restaurant in Indianapolis. Favorite Italian Restaurant in Indianapolis. Cozy, elegant and romantic, but best of all, the food.

I have been going to this place for years and has never been dissapointed. I have highly recommended to friends and co-workers.

Authentic italian food in a classy ambiance.. Best authentic italian restaurant in the city. I've visited quite a few italian restaurants in the city and was very impressed by Amalfi's food and ambiance. If you are trying to hold the perfect lunch bussiness or treat friends to the best italian food in town, there is no better place than Amalfi. Chicken lasagna may be the most delicious pasta in the restaurant, a perfect marriage of tomato sauce, chicken and italian cheeses. If you are tired of reading menus, the daily specials are always a sure option, mainly the stuffed red bell pepper and the maccaroni with 8 cheeses plus daily pastas and fish specials. Reservations are always the best way to get a table on weekends during peak hours. They are pretty good honoring reservation time. There is no more smoking in the bar or whole restaurant and now they count with a new private dining room. Service has always been professional and corteous in my visits. It's a pleasure to see this place thriving during the years, mainly since Joni and Mario, the new owners, have taken over. If you haven't been back for the last 3 years, now is a good time to see a new renaissance in Amalfi and savor some of the best food in the city.

It's worth waiting for Mama's authentic Italian cuisine at this tiny, bustling trattoria.. In Short
The restaurant is tiny, and the standing wait can be excruciating, but fans of rustic Italian cuisine keep coming back. Chef Mario DiRosa prepares specialty dishes, but diners are most impressed by the culinary skills of his mother, who runs the back of the house, preparing specials, breads and desserts. The veal-stuffed red peppers are served as an appetizer and offered only on special nights.

Drooling Italian Cuisine. As a first time diner, I found the found fabulous. I tried the potato dumplings whic were quite filling with the potato and pasta doused in cheese and sauce. My husband had the veal with pasta and marinara sauce. The veal was so delicous it seemed to melt in my mouth when I tried the dish. I atmosphere made it a perfect place for a couple to have a nice dinner out by themselves. Although, a small group of people could have quite a delightful time. The wine selection as well was marvelous.

Not even close to the best!. The food here is about average. The menu is weak, but I'm also not a fan of Northern Italian dishes. Amalfi will easily cost you $25 a person at dinner time. It isn't even the best Italian restaurant on 86th and Ditch! Go to Bacco! Trust me!

A warm cocoon. This 'hidden jewel' owes much to owner Arturo's 'secret weapon' -- his mother -- who is said to be responsible for many of the heavenly sauces and dishes of this traditional Indianapolis Italian standby. Walking into this out-of-the-way and unexpected find, one is whisked away from the workakay Hoosier world and into a world of continental European ambiance and clientelle.
