Editorial Review for Eagle Creek Park – by Kate Shoup Welsh
Overview
One of the nation's largest municipal recreation areas, Eagle Creek Park boasts 3,900 acres of wooded terrain and a 1,300-acre reservoir. There's so much to do, you'll forget you're only 10 minutes from downtown.
Features
Nature enthusiasts will enjoy the park's extensive footpaths and bike trails, which are great for cross-country skiing during the winter. Water lovers can swim, sail, canoe or fish in the reservoir, which accommodates one of only two rowing courses in the United States sanctioned for international competition. Other park amenities include the nature center, a 27-hole golf course, an archery range (designed according to world-class competition specifications), a pistol range, shelter houses (great for picnics and parties), retreat centers and playgrounds. Horse-drawn carriage rides through the park are offered seasonally, and hayrides are available in autumn.

There is a little of everything here. Hiking trails, bike trails, nature centers, ponds, and even swimming. Not too far from the city or the suburbs, great for family picnics. Great location to spend a day with your friends and family.
Pros: Free, Easy to navigate, great location
