Used to be my favorite place to eat.
As a kid I dined at Hong Kong Inn regularly, I stopped going probably around 2007, and then went last year for the first time since then. I was appalled! The broccoli with the orange chicken dish I had ordered was completely dehydrated because it had been cooked so long. The breading was falling off the chicken completely, not to mention they added way too much salt to the egg drop soup. It was a terrible turn around from the restaurant I once loved and looked forward to eating at! All I can wonder is if they got a knew cook, or if they lost their old owner.
5 years ago I would of recommended this place to everyone. Now, not so much!
Mediocre and Americanized. After reading the other reviews of the Hong Kong Inn on this website, I was excited and surprised to find a hopefully authentic Chinese restaurant in Indianapolis. After eating there, I realized that my hopes were in vain. The food at this restaurant was okay at best. I will say, though that their egg roll was one of the best I've ever had; but, the rest of the food was too sweet and the flavors just did not fit in with what authentic Chinese food should be. I have many friends who grew up in China, and I know for a fact that they would not claim Hong Kong Inn to be authentic.
The BEST Chinese Food. This is the best Chinese you will find. It is one of the last authentic Chinese food restaurants around. You use to be able to find this kind of food everywhere when I was growing up but as the "fast food" Chinese started creeping up the genuine ones started to close. If you want a real eggroll this is the place. They are big and crispy and filled with lots of flavorful ingredients including tiny shrimp. If it is chow mein you want they make it with bean sprouts and the tiny crispy chow mein noodles. If you are a true Chinese food lover you owe it to yourself to try this place. The only problem is, once you have had it you will never be the same. I live on the west side of Carmel and it is quite a trip but well worth it.
Editorial Review by Christy Buena. Locals flock for fresh egg rolls, authentic Chinese cuisine and fast, friendly service at the restaurant that offers tropical drinks.
Best Chinese Food in Indianapolis!. The food is wonderful. It's not that processed stuff you get at those china buffet's, this is really good food! The egg rolls are big and the best I've ever had in Indy. My family has been going here since I was a little girl and it has always been one of my favorite restaurants.
