Best overall pub dining. This is one of the best pub dining experiences in Indy, and can hold its own even against the pubs I've experienced in London and Oxfordshire, England, and Edinburgh, Scotland. Cozy atmosphere, traditional English pub style decor, great dark ales, the absolute BEST Bloody Mary/Bloody Caesar from here to Boston, Mass, and excellent fish & chips that come out hot & crispy. Though there are a couple other places that might have better English style bitters, this is the place to go if you want great English/Irish Ales *and* great food. Service is always warm and friendly, but if you can't handle waiting a minute or two for a waiter the moment you walk in, you're just impatient and you shouldn't bother with a real restaurant - go to McDonald's or try waiting in the customs queue at Heathrow and you'll never complain about waiting ever again! Here there are no clueless 17-year old hostesses who don't know the difference between a pub and a bar, let alone ale from lager. When you get your waiter they know what they are talking about.
What happened here?.
For Sunday Brunch we had to go find a hostess to seat us. We walked into the main dining room from the entry way after waiting for a couple of minutes and spotted an employee sitting at a booth w/ a friend. Finally she got up as if we were bothering her. She sat us explaining "someone will be with you soon, I don't know who..."
The food is always acceptable, just that, not hideous and not fantastic, but for the price, you'd expect more. And the muffins used to be actual muffins, the one I go with my frittata looked like a Hostess mini muffin and tasted about as exciting. I know there was a new chef recently hoping to bring life back to this old favorite, but it seems like they have given up on brunch. You'd think with Taste being across the street and obviously pulling customers from Aristocrat that they would step up their game!
I first went to The Aristocrat in 1994 and loved the quaint setting, friendly service and good food. I'm not sure what has changed more, my taste or their quality but it sure ain't what it used to be!
Unresponsive waiter. My wife and I and two friends were seated on the patio for Saturday luncheon. Our waiter was friendly but was not responsive to my complaint that the cole slaw that came with our sandwiches tasted like it was spoiled. He acted like it was not possible that what I was saying could be true. I wanted him to communicate my comment to the chef and get back to me with the chef's response. After all, if I was correct, other patrons could be spared getting the same item. At least, the waiter could have taken the cole slaw back and offered a substitute selection. Before I decided to stop eating the cole slaw, I did eat half of the small dish of slaw, and I became sick to my stomach shortly thereafter and remained so for the rest of the day. An experiences such as this one does not make me want to go back to the Aristocrat.
Exciting new menu. Great food, great atmosphere, exciting new pubby menu. One of the most unique restaurants in Indy, authentic Irish music!!!!!!!!
Great food, great jazz and great service are the hallmarks of this classy pub..
In Short
Part of a pub empire that also includes Union Jack's, the Aristocrat is both a spacious restaurant and a bar with live music. Jazz, acoustic and authentic Celtic performers are all regulars. Service is warm and personable. Tall stained-glass fixtures and beautiful finished wood are some of the pub's best features, and the intimate, private booths make you feel like there's only you, your sweetheart and the band. The Aristocrat's menu is classic American. Vegetarians should check out the Planet Burger, a house specialty made with whole grains and fresh cheeses.
The Aristocrat ROCKS. The Aristocrat has the best food and atmosphere in town! I live in the neighborhood and we love to stroll down to eat there! I love the chicken Taco Salad!
