Editorial Review for Chatterbox Tavern – by Ryan J. Downey
The Scene
When the Rolling Stones were in town looking for a cool postshow hangout 10 years ago, they came here, and their autographs still adorn the back refrigerator. This neighborhood bar draws a mix of mods, art students from the nearby Herron School of Art and music makers of all kinds. Small and intimate, with indoor and outdoor seating, the Chatterbox offers live jazz seven days a week.
The Booze
The Chatterbox is known for its enormous wine selection, substantial beer selection (40 brews in stock), and classic gin and vodka drinks.

I have to admit, I just love this Mass Ave landmark! The Chatterbox is an intimate little tavern with lots of character (i.e., very old building with lots of handwriting and chatchkies on the walls). It may not be as sparkling and homogenized as other establishments, but once you pull up a chair and order a drink, the friendly staff and patrons will make you feel right at home. Customer Service is king at the Chatterbox. The bartenders are great, always very attentive to your needs, and super friendly. The owner, Dave, often is there cheerfully greeting guests at the door, espeically on the weekends when he is collecting covers for the great live jazz acts that frequent this establishment every weeekend. The jazz here is wonderfully diverse, with various artists coming to visit regularly. The jazz lover out there will not be disappoointed when visiting on a Friday or Saturday night (My favorite is Blue Django). Also, the first sets are typically non-smoking as well, so no needs to get all choked up between 10pm and midnight! Make sure you visit this place, have a cold draft and the Patties of Jamaica for a snack while your there!
Pros: great live jazz venue
Cons: Its kind of small

Very relaxed, good jazz bands, open late for Downtown. I like going there at the end of the night for a soothing drink on the patio, listen to some mellow sounds and watch the world go by
