THESE BAD REVIEWS ARE TRUE! I WAS THERE!.
Since another reviewer chose to refute the negative comment below his or hers, let me assure you, this story (though it seems totally unbelievable) IS true. I was there...
I've been to Nicky Blaine's exactly four times in my entire life. None of these experiences have been even average or good, but since the place seems to have a following of people who enjoy super slow service and subpar rude staff, I tag along when someone suggests visiting a martini bar while in downtown Indy.
After my own wedding reception, a group of my friends and family visited Nicky Blaine's. We had all trailed in in groups of 3-5 people and sat near each other. The waiter assumed we were in a group. This was a fairly common assumption, and only a few of us minded the hassle of the bar's "no split check" policy for "groups" of our size.
However, the bar staff was EXTREMELY slow. None of us expected lightning speed when we arrived but we did not expect to wait up to 20 minutes for a martini and even longer to take care of our bills.
The story Elliot5 tells below me is absolutely true and basically ruined a very special night for our friends and friends. Let me go on to say that after our family member who had been treated so poorly left we all asked for our bills, WHICH had not been split between even the half of our party who had been there for about an hour before the other half. It was horrendous. We tried to figure out who had ordered what, but eventually gave up screaming over the loud techno music and my husband paid the bill without even being sure we ordered enough drinks to total the bill. It was over $300.
Our friends and family are not low class or poor. However, we were treated like subclass trash that night.
Had we recieved average service, our tip would have indicated such. However, we recieved absolutely the worst service all of us had ever recieved in a public bar or restaurant in our entire lives.
The experience was horrible. End of story. Would never return.
great place fantastic service.
We love Nicky Blaines. By far the nicest club in town . Look at the dates on the previous two reviews. Must be a disgruntled employee ,as they both sound the same and are the same date. Go to Nickies and see for yourself . The place is always packed they must be doing something right .The previous two reviews
sound alot like someone in the industry just trying to bash the place . Go Nicky Blaines WE LOVE YOU
neat place, bad service. this is a really cool bar. but, the people who work there are rude. recently, i went there with two of my friends. we ordered a round of drinks. the waiter never asked for payment. so, i assumed that he was keeping track on a tab. after we each drank our martini, which are very overpriced, we asked for the bill. he told us he'd be right back. 15 minutes later, the bill arrived, with FIVE martinis on it! i told him we each had one. that makes three. he told me "don't be a smart a--." i was shocked. i told him that i didn't want to argue, just take two of the drinks off. since he was so mean, i only left him a 10% tip. he didn't deserve any tip after the comment. but, it wasn't enough for him. before i could leave, he approached me and told me to get out. and he called me an a--hole. i'll never go back.
Beautiful bar, absolutely terrible customer service. Nicky Blaine's is well known, and pretty well reviewed online. The selection of martinis, scotch, and cigars is great. And, the lounge has a classy feel. Nevertheless, many of my friends who live in Indy told me to stay away from the place. They told me that it was overpriced and that the waiters and bartenders were jerks. I thought: they are probably basing their opinion on one isolated occurrence. Unfortunately, I was wrong. I just visited the establishment with 10 people. We were dressed very nicely. We were not intoxicated. We just wanted to have a few drinks. After paying $5 to get in, and getting a few pretentious stares from the manager, a man took our order. We each ordered a drink, and some in our party paid separately. It took 25 minutes for us to receive the drinks. The drinks were very overpriced for Indy ($8 and up). But, everyone was enjoying the environment, so we wanted another round. I looked at our waiter, and he ignored me. Finally, he approached us and told us that one member of our group "...Did not tip me enough. So, I'm done. You all brought him, so no drinks for any of you." I was astounded. I have never in my life been spoken to like that. I responded: "Sir, please, I tipped you an adequate amount. I have always tipped waiters a minimum of 15 to 20%, and I would like to be able to order another drink. I had nothing to do with the level of tip that my friend gave to you. Can I please have another drink?" He replied: "F**k you. I already said no. Ask again, and I'll ask you to leave." Upon hearing this, I approached the manager, who angrily informed me that he "backs the staff. It's the principle of the matter. Tip or get the f**k out!" I explained to him that I would not cause trouble, and would leave the bar. But, I would tell everyone I could to stay away from this place. He laughed out loud. Well, who's got the last laugh sir?
class. cigar smoke bar filled with class. highly reccomend this place for a wife-free, kid-free night of relaxation.
Nicky Blaine's. I just went there last week. The barstaff and bouncers were nice and accomodating. The bathrooms were cleaned and stocked. We were even given a mini tour and welcomed back. Very nice, wished I would have went sooner.
Big Moves. I had not been to Nicky Blaines since it had moved across the street. I wish that I had gone sooner, what a great place to hang out with friends! Aside from the obvious smoke [it IS a cigar bar] I enjoyed the overall ambience, I forgot that I was in Indy momentarily. The service was prompt and professional, the cocktails were superb and I highly recommend experiencing it for yourself!
Best Martinis, Great customer service, very busy place. We went to Nicky Blaines on 3/2/07 . Wow what a cool place . Very handsome, polite doormen. We felt like we we going back in time to the old speakeasy days. The music was contemporary and had an international flair . Service was excellent and the server was a really hot guy!!!!!! I enjoyed the whole experience although it was a little pricey. I guess you get what you pay for. We cant wait to go back!!!
Horrid service, rude treatement, would avoid it at all costs from now on. Walked in with 2 friends @ approximately 10:30 on March 2. The doorman asked us for the $5 cover charge and I said, "Wow, $5 to get in here?" He replied, "It keeps out the riff raff." I said yeah right and he said, "I bet if I kissed you it would taste bitter." Trust me, not even in his greasy little dreams. $5 cover charge and there were no paper towels or soap in the ladies room. Three empty containers for the soap and not a towel to be found. There was no band,, no entertainment, and no dj, what was the cover charge for? So we could pay for the privilege of paying $8 each for drinks? We sat down at a table and waited 10-15 min. before finally getting a server. It took quite a while to get drinks (5-10 min. and the bar was sufficiently staffed). When we were ready for our 2nd round I asked for the check. We waited 10 min. for the drinks and the bill did not come with them as asked. We gave her 2 $20's and a card and asked her to split it 3 ways. Our plan was to tip her in cash. The bill was approximately $55 or so, but when she came back she handed us our money and card back and said the system was down and she couldn't cash us out. And after looking at it we realize there was a NEW bill and it said the total was about $65. I asked a bartender to help me get things fixed. He gave me an attitude because I told him we had been overcharged for a drink. The server came over and argued that we had 7 drinks. We had 6 drinks total. The bartender actually yelled at me for causing a problem over my bill. Then he realized that the bill was indeed wrong and handed it back to me. He didn't bother to apologize for his rudeness. As we were leaving, I started to open the wrong door and the same doorman SNAPPED his fingers at me and pointed us up the stairs. I'm not a dog and I don't appreciate being snapped at by some meathead with an attitude problem. I said something about it and he denied it even though at least three other people saw him do it.
rudness. Has anyone figured out what happened to Joel and Jeff? Did they open their own frat house? Reality finally set in?
