A popular spot for sports fans who want a big ol' pint of beer with their steak..
In Short
Jail bars are everywhere you look, but there's no need to escape this Alcatraz. With copper tanks, steel catwalks and an airy dining room, it's the perfect combination of brewery, restaurant and sports bar to keep just about anyone happy. A huge TV screen--78 inches wide and weighing over 250 pounds--and 11 other monitors are scattered throughout. From the light and refreshing Searchlight Golden Ale to the rich and hearty Breakout Stout, beer lovers of every stripe will be satisfied by the seasonal brew selection.
Escape to Alcatraz. The atmosphere is wonderful! The resteraunt has a trendy, ambient feel and the food is great!!! In my opinion, the Big House Red is the best beer they brew and the atlantic Salmon with the mango sauce is devine!!! It's in the middle of everything, so if you are staying downtown it is very convenient. I can't say how much I enjoyed this restaurant!!! You have to try it!
good God does this place suck!. I can't understand the hoopla! I have been here 3 times now, and each time the food has been substandard to nasty and the beer just so-so. There's better selections of both to be had across the street.
Lock Me Up!.
Alcatraz is located on the ground floor of the Circle Center Mall in Downtown Indianapolis.
The atmosphere is a weird mix of sports bar and 50's diner. There is a lot of metal everywhere, and pennants/paraphernalia of the various Indiana sports teams. Alcatraz has 9 or so beers in rotation, some are average and a couple are pretty good. They do brew a couple unique beers like a Ginseng Ale which you have to give them credit for.
The service is about what you'd expect at a mall brewpub. The server was pretty helpful with the different beers, and was kind enough to help with questions about the local hockey scene!
The food was pretty good, if pricey.
All in all there is no reason not to visit this brewpub if you are in downtown Indy, especially since it is in walking distance of two others (RAM and Rock Bottom).
Hands Down The Best Bartenders. Alcatraz has a good mix of staff and service. The bar staff is funny and good looking. There is one HOT bartender but I forget her name. See you there soon. The big screen is a must see and the ribs are to die for.
Great Times at Alcatraz!. Alcatraz is a really great place to have a few beers over a good appitizer. I love trying new and different beers and Alcatraz is a definite A!
Better Beer in the Best Place. Loved it for a late lunch and loved the scenery seated around the place. Enjoyed the beers and super servers with a really wide selection of foods for a Sports Bar. A great place for tourists like us or the locals as all said around town and we saw the local yuppies doing lunch as well.
