Absolutely bottom of the barrel.
Ivy Tech Community College is the worst college I have ever had the misfortune of running across.
The staff, particularly the Financial Aid staff, are so rude there's few words to describe it. I have tried to negotiate this school for three semesters, and I'm just done. I don't know how many college students have left because of the administration is simply intolerable, but I will be the first to put it out there.
The instructors I had were funny and sincere, but their own level of expertise was not far ahead of mine, in some cases, further behind then I am. These people are obviously not paid enough, not trained enough, and not educated enough themselves. Some of them would spend large chunks of class time complaining about the state of the school.
They sell you "books" for $150.00 that does not even have a cover, you have to go buy a binder to stick your $150.00 stack of papers in. They make you pay a dollar so you can get a plastic card with a .30c balance on it to print things out, even if they are important papers concerning Financial Aid. You pay to sneeze in this school, and even that is unsatisfactory.
I watched six people in front of me in the line of the Financial Aid today, and all six of them walked away with grimaces, angry, one walked away very much appearing as if she were going to break down into tears. There were TWO people handling the Financial Aid office, and in between handling the students that were airily chit-chatting about their own ineptness at using the programs they use for Financial Aid.
Things like that should NEVER make it to the students ears. This school is a joke, and it's apparently proud of the fact that it employs witless administration, and burnt-out, under-paid professors, many of whom I took classes from would even regale us with their 'this is my other job' story.
Essentially, if you would like a pleasant learning atmosphere, a quality college-level education, and an intelligent person to communicate your needs and abilities to, scratch this school off of your list with vengeance.
Go some where else if you can!!!.
This school is ridiculous. It is not a school it is a business and thats exactly how they treat the students. The teachers are nice but the administration is absurd. They are EXTREMELY RUDE, and even more lazy. All they care about is the money, not the education. The financial aid office and the bursars office treat you so bad that they get numerous complaints daily and nobody does anything about it. The bursars office actually said and I quote "We serve a lower class of people here, so we don't offer campus living and we take longer to process paperwork with less emphasis on the students". When I was outraged and insulted, I asked for her boss, who basically said the same thing with no action. They treat you worst than the welfair office (speaking from experience), they hold your money back for 2 months (who needs to eat right?), and they don't fix theyr mistakes either. Sounds like big business to me. I understand that they have overhead and salaries to pay, but for me.... I'm paying for this experience, this is MY EDUCATION, and I prefer to be treated with a little bit of respect while I'm paying for a second rate education whos credits only transfer to other schools 40% of the time.
People, be very weary with this school and make sure you have your bases covered. They will rip you off in a second. I've barely touched down on all the issues that come with this ridiculous school. This is just the first time i have found somewhere I can post a review of this school. Looking for more too.
