I've tried it three times and was disappointed three times. Mediocre food and bad service. Seat yourself? Just hire a hostess.

Never Going Back. We've lived in Franklin for 9 years and have always heard how great The Willard is. So finally we go. We walk in and it's smoky. There's no hostess and no sign saying anything like "Seat Yourself". Another group walks in behind us and wonders what we're doing just standing there. We admit that we're not sure what else we should be doing and he graciously tells us you just find your own table. So we find one for the five of us. We're not in the bar (obviously since our three young daughters are with us) and yet people are smoking around us. Apparently the Franklin ordinance regulating smoking in public places is not in effect here. There's a handy ash tray on our table in case our 8-year-old would care to light up. ANYWAY, the food arrives. The two grilled cheese sandwiches are burned. The pizza is tasteless except for the dried oregano sprinkled over the top of it. The bill comes. It's almost $50 for two sandwiches, a pizza, an order of fries, and 5 sodas. I won't be going back here. I suggest that you don't go, either.

Built in 1860, this historic building is now a bar and restaurant where patrons become longtime pals.. In Short
First a private home, then later a hotel, this everybody-knows-your-name pub and eatery features the brick structure, curved staircase and marble fireplace mantle the original owners enjoyed. These days, the people enjoying them include Franklin College professors, local professionals and plain folks. Pizza, sandwiches and chicken wings dominate the basic menu, along with a wide selection of beers.
