The Scene
It looks like the Bates Motel outside, and your crazy aunt's house inside. The main dining room is done in knotty pine with sheer white curtains and wall decor that includes a deer head and a copper mold. Couples and small gatherings take advantage of the fine food, solicitous service and quiet, comfortable surroundings.
The Food
Excellent from start (tender escargot in garlic butter and parsley) to finish (a melt-in-your-mouth chocolate souffle that must be ordered at the beginning of the meal). In between comes flavorful soups (French onion and shrimp bisque), a wonderful salad featuring a wedge of crisp, chilled iceberg lettuce, pallet-cleansing raspberry sorbet and entrees. The unadorned salmon bursts with flavor. The veal Oscar features thinly sliced fillets topped with crab meat and white asparagus. While the veal could use a touch more tenderizing, the overall flavors mesh perfectly.

Our family has been to Chez Jean often. We have taken as few as 2 and as many as 30 to the restraunt. We always make reservations however occassionally it may only give them an hour notice. They are always polite, easy to work with, and the food is always fabulous. We have done a rehersal dinner - received complements from every guest. We have celebrated birthdays, and been served the best cakes, cookies, breads you have ever eaten. We have done small romantic meals, this is just the right atmosphere. Occassionally we get hungry and want to be pampered. This is the only place we thought of. If you want a fabulous meal, great atmosphere and service unsurpassed anywhere , this is the place to go.

This has been our favorite "special occasion" restaurant for 20 years (with the exception of the little over a year they were closed). The food is always excellent and served in courses, with no rush to get you out. I particularly like the escargot appetizer which has never been a disappointment. Take your special significant other to Chez Jean for that special occasion and the dining experience and atmosphere will be something you will long remember as a positive, and you will want to return.
