Yats - Great food, but cash only.. This place has some wonderful creole food. I travel to New Orleans about 15-20 time a year and I have finally found a place in indy that brings home the flavor of the "BIG EASY". The food is out-of-this world!!! They also have a hot spot (free wi-fi) for your laptop or other internet ready gadget. Overall, I would recommend this establishment to everyone. The prices are great. meal is $5.50 - $6.50. Got to love that!!!! The staff is very friendly and unlike New Orleans, they all have teeth. The only downer is it is a CASH ONLY establishment. This is not the next VISA commercial restaurant. and no they don't take America Express.

No-frills, New Orleans style food tamed to timid taste.. The Scene
Christmas bulbs, beads and junk store finds drip from ceiling and shelves in the garish yellow eatery plucked off Bourbon Street, seemingly awaiting cleanup from a Mardi Gras explosion. Scattered inside and out, mismatched seating is concealed under subtle, ambient lighting. Serenaded by canned retro classics, young Broad Ripple patrons read newspapers and people-watch in the bustling and delightfully tacky New Orleans-style haunt.

The Food
Creole aromas waft down College Avenue, advertising a flavorful, but not spicy, Cajun menu. Heat can be added from a selection of sauce bottles on the bar in this self-serve cafe where every entree is $5. Most of the limited array of etouffees, beans and rice are served with chicken, although vegetarian selections are available. A nod to true Cajun cooking is evidenced by the crawfish and sausage choices. Surprisingly, curry seasons the mushroom and spinach etouffee.

Excellent cajun/creole food for only $5!. Yats is unbelievable. Each dish is only $5 and the portions are generous. The owner is from New Orleans so you bet that the recipes are authentic. I personally love the crawfish etoufee which is made tastier by adding a chili/cheese type flavoring. My husband likes the red beans and rice. No bland food here! Plus they have a million different hot sauces you can try. I like the spicy garlic. Each dish also comes with French bread. Check this place out!

Best cheaps eats by far!. This place would be great at three times the price! $5 for what's on the menu everyday. $6 for half & half. You can't go wrong if you like Creole that's for sure. If you've never tried it, what are you waiting for? You can drop a fiver to find out - you'll be glad you did,

One of the best values!. I tried the downtown Yat's for the first time a few months ago before heading to a show at the Murat, and am in heaven! The service was very friendly and patient as I deliberated over the various menu choices, and even offered up a sample upon observing my indecisiveness. I decided upon a coconut etoufee which was wonderful! Just enough coconut to give the flavor a pleasant twist.

And there's no beating the bang for your buck! Perfect for a filling meal without needing to allot a lot of time beforehand.

Where y'at?. It's not pretty, but neither is Workingman's Friend, Acapulco Joe's or Mug n Bun. If you want ambiance, this is not your place. Dis is gooood cajun, nothing more, nothing less. Go for a half and half. But, hurry up and eat what you can for lunch, put the rest in a to-go box (supply conveniently located at the counter) and get going, else feel the stares of those standing waiting for a seat. After all, that pile of work on your desk isn't going to disappear as easily as that mound of spicy cajun ambrosia on your plate did.

Where Y'at? Real N'awlins food for the M. Proprieter Joe Vuskovich comes from a family legacy of good eats in New Orleans' West Bank, where his family had a restaurant for years.

Joe brought the ettouffe, gumbo, and various other New Orleans/Italiano/south of the border flavors to Indianapolis a few years ago, where people discovered the spice and the price ($5.00-$6.00 for a plate of heaven, french bread and a drink)!!

This New Orleans chick knows the real deal....try it for yourself!!

Excellent. Cheap, fast, and good, enough said! Try the chili cheese etouffee with crawfish, or chicken creole. Jambalaya is hit-or-miss, wait too late in the day and you risk it being dried out. But fresh...it is too good!
